The power of Operation Round Up

It started as a simple idea 27 years ago at one co-op in South Carolina. Just round up the co-op member’s electric bill to the next dollar, and then use it to do good work in your community. Today, Renville-Sibley Cooperative Power Association is amongst the hundreds of electric co-ops throughout the country that use the Operation Round Up idea to help members and organizations close to home.

One of the seven cooperative principles that provide guidelines for electric cooperatives is Concern for Community. The Operation Round Up program is the perfect embodiment of this core principle. The average co-op member donates $6 with a maximum possible contribution of $11.88 per year. This may not seem like a large amount, but when combined with the more than 1,800 other members of Renville-Sibley Co-op Power it adds up to make a significant impact.

All members will be automatically enrolled in the program. However, the program is always voluntary, and at any time, members can request to be removed from the program. Once folks see the good work the program does in their community, they almost always keep contributing.

Renville-Sibley’s Operation Round Up program operates with a board of trustees that is different from the board of directors for the electric co-op. The board of trustees, made up of Renville-Sibley members, will review all applications. This ensures that the decisions are made in the best interest of the community.  Per the bylaws of this charitable trust, the purpose of Operation Round Up is the accumulation and disbursement of funds for charitable and educational purposes primarily in the area served by Renville-Sibley Cooperative Power Association.

To apply for funds from the Operation Round Up program, please complete the Application for Donation. To request an application by mail or for more information about the Operation Round Up program, please contact the office at 800-826-2593. Completed applications will be reviewed at the next scheduled meeting of the board of trustees.
