Scholar of the Month Program
Starting in the fall of 2015, Renville-Sibley Co-op Power, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, began recognizing top senior students with our Scholar of the Month program. As a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, we are founded on the four pillars of Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and a Commitment to Community. Based on these principles, we recognized high school students who also share these same values.
Here is how the Scholar of the Month program works. Each month, a faculty member of the BOLD, Cedar Mountain, CMCS, GFW, MACCRAY, RCW or Redwood Valley high schools will nominate one highly motivated high school senior who excels in the classroom and is involved in the community and extracurricular activities. All nominations are emailed to Renville-Sibley Co-op Power by the end of each month. All nominations are entered into a random drawing for a $100 donation. This donation will be given to the school of the selected student with the student determining how the funds should be distributed (athletic department, music department, FFA, etc.). Each month the selected student will be recognized in our newsletter, on local radio stations, and in their local newspaper for their accomplishments.
In June, Renville-Sibley will host a reception for the selected students and their families. At this reception, each student’s name will be entered into a random drawing for a $1,000 college scholarship from Renville-Sibley. Past Scholar of the Year winners are:
- 2016: Tegan Hicks from Redwood Valley High School
- 2017: Caden Hanna from Redwood Valley High School
- 2018: Meghan Beckendorf from Renville County West
- 2019: Cera Cordova from Renville County West
- 2020: Erika Hoff from Renville County West
- 2021: Brandon Bentley from Renville County West
- 2022: Tyler Froland from Renville County West
The program runs from September thru April each year. Nominations should be submitted to Renville-Sibley by the last day of each month to be entered into the drawing for that month. The Scholar for that month will be selected by the 10th of the following month. Radio and newspaper promotions will follow.
We are excited to learn more about all of our outstanding high school seniors!
